Wanderlust: Naga Cathedral

The Naga Cathedral, built in the year 1808, is a must-go in Naga City. Catholic or not, the church offers breathtaking views to the young and old. Just a few kilometres away from the busy streets of the Centro, one could already reach the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Caceres. It has an Earthquake-Baroque Romanesque which truly sets it apart from other churches. It has massive columns that withstand calamities such as typhoons and fires.

During the Penafrancia Festival it serves as shelter for the Nuestra Senora de Penafracia, more often called “Ina” after the Traslacion (1st Friday of September from Basilica to Naga Cathedral along the streets of Naga City) and the Fluvial procession (8th day of the devotion, from Naga Cathedral to Basilica along the Bicol River). It caters every Bicolano pilgrim’s devotion with its big grounds and magnificent fascade.

The Cathedral can be found on Elias Angeles St., Naga City, Camarines Sur. From the city’s Plaza Rizal, one could either ride a jeepney Route A or a tricycle/taxicle. Prices depend with the negotiations on the driver.
